Gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment (GLGE) ranging from string trimmers to stump grinders and tractors is also a source of high levels of localized emissions that includes hazardous air pollutants, criteria pollutants, and carbon dioxide (CO2).
The Village of Ardsley has updated its Noise Ordinance to address concerns about gas-powered leaf blowers. Under the revised law, these machines - known for their loud noise and air pollution - are now included in the village’s official noise regulations.
The updated rules apply to all individuals and businesses working in Ardsley and require that all outdoor lawn and garden work, including the use of gas blowers and mowers, happen only during designated hours:
8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays and holidays
These changes aim to reduce both noise and air pollution while maintaining peace and quiet in our neighborhoods. Exceptions may be made only for urgent public safety needs.
As of December 2023, over 160 communities across 10 states have adopted SolarAPP+, collectively approving more than 32,800 projects.
Solar Permits Made Simple with SolarAPP+
SolarAPP+ is a free online tool from the U.S. Department of Energy that helps local governments quickly approve permits for home rooftop solar systems. It speeds up the process by checking that designs meet safety codes, cutting delays and costs for homeowners and installers.

In recognition of this important day, all residents are encouraged to support environmental initiatives locally, regionally, and nationally. The proclamation also calls on citizens to inspire others to take meaningful action in protecting our planet for future generations. Way to go Ardsley 💚

NYU Capstone Project Proposes Plan to Lower the Village's Emissions
The Village of Ardsley seeks to reduce its emission by transitioning their municipal vehicle fleet into more sustainable alternatives. Environmental and health concerns are the driving forces behind Ardsley’s interest in making the transition. As a member of New York State’s Climate Smart Communities, Ardsley seeks to set emission reduction goals. The Village of Ardsley’s 2019 Inventory of Government Operations Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report found that the Village’s yearly emissions totaled 535 metric tons (MT) CO2e. The Village’s fleet was found to be the main contributor of those emissions, at 49% of total emissions, followed by the Village’s buildings, at 43% of emissions. Street lights and traffic signals contributed to 8% of emissions.
